Position Description The Office of Council Member Jason Chavez is seeking highly qualified candidates for the position of Policy Aide. This politically appointed position provides communications, research, engagement, and policy support to the Council Member. Job Duties and Responsibilities Assist Council Member with Committee Assignments and duties Prepare briefing materials, agendas, and other documents Perform data analysis to guide Office policy and ensure Office policies are supported by evidence-based practices. Working with the Council Member to advance their goals and strategies for the city, including Council-adopted strategic planning goals and ward-specific goals. Recommend, present, and promote strategic new policies or policy changesfor Minneapolis residentstoachieve safety and well-being. Plan and coordinate meetings and engagements with key intergovernmental and governmental stakeholders to identify policy opportunities and barriers Collaborate and brainstorm ideas with stakeholders to assist in the development of the City's responseand engagement. Provide strategic advice and recommendations to the Council Member on policy initiatives, key decisions before the Council, constituent inquiries and concerns, and other projects. Move the Council Member's initiatives through the public participation and policy-making process. Provide the Council Member with written and oral policy briefings necessary for meetings and decision-making. Build productive working relationships with the offices of City Council members and the Mayor, their staff, and city departments. Track the agendas of City Council Committees and pertinent Boards and Commissions and brief the Council Member on items of interest. Advise and direct the Council Associate to respond promptly to meeting requests and make proactive recommendations for the Council Member's schedule. Direct Council office external communications, including strategic messaging and talking points, press relations, and social media. Coordinate with City communications staff as appropriate to ensure that media inquiries are responded to in a timely manner by the appropriate person. Develop and produce a regular Council Office email newsletter to provide public updates on initiatives underway in the City and by the Council Member. Maintain and update content on the Council Member's webpage. Keep the Council Member apprised of news coverage about issues and activities related to the Council Member and their agenda. Coordinate Council Member appointments to City boards and commissions. Provide advice and recommendations to the Council Member on community engagement strategy to advance their priorities.
