SUNY Upstate Medical University Investigation Drug Services Pharmacist in Syracuse, New York

Job Summary:

The Investigation Drug Services (IDS) Pharmacist will provide care and oversight to patients enrolled in investigation drug studies at Upstate University Hospital / Upstate Medical University. This individual will collaborate closely with research administration, principle investigators, clinical research staff, and research sponsors to ensure that investigation drug studies are performed safely and accurately. The IDS pharmacist will join a pharmacy research team to ensure investigational medications are properly received, stored, dispensed, prepared, and documented per study requirements and pharmacy regulations. This individual will also have responsibility for reviewing research protocols to ensure all requirements are met for pharmacy prior to study commencement. Overall activities include but are not limited to: clinical study protocol and documentation review, Investigational Review Board (IRB) correspondence, completion of pre-study training, medication preparation, medication validation, fee capture and billing, and research team correspondence.

The Pharmacist also interprets medication orders and prescriptions to ensure that they are complete, safe, rational, and compatible with institutional policy. Prepares compounds and dispenses medications for inpatient and ambulatory care use. This includes the preparation of injectable sterile products. Dispenses Pharmacy related items. Performs duties in all areas of Pharmacy to include inpatient , ambulatory care and satellites. Provides information to health care practitioners to promote the rational use of medications. Provides drug monitoring service. Maintains Pharmacy records by law and institutional policy. Interprets policy. Interprets policy and procedures for hospital staff. Participates in teaching programs for hospital staff. Participates in Pharmacy Departments Quality Assurance Programs.

Minimum Qualifications:

B.S. in Pharmacy or Pharm.D., NYS license and registration - or eligible - required; completion of PGY1 Pharmacy residency or equivalent experience required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous experience with oversight and/or direct involvement in investigation drug services preferred.

Work Days:

Days; weekends/holidays/evening possible based upon department need.
